Our templates work with Excel and Google Sheets. Just open them up, connect your tech stack, and watch them do the math for you.

The template has three components. First is a static data table that defines your unit costs of each product. This sets the foundation of your COGS and changes in the inventory for the period. In this example we’ve broken the COGS into their component parts like product costs vs. freight costs.

Second, is gathering the sales data. In this example, the data are pulled directly from Shopify using Amalgam. That dataset is organized and enhanced using the “open columns” of F:O to capture the date, sales including gross vs. net components, and calculate the COGS by sub-type.

Finally, that calculated data is linked into the journal entry loader tab where Amalgam connects your sheet directly to the general ledger to post journal entries. In this case, that’s Quickbooks Online. There’s an additional tab as a placeholder for the Balance Sheet to create the proper checks to ensure that the account balances are accurate and where they should be.
